Snow!

Seattle, where it usually only snows once or twice a winter, is having a snowy, cold snap in November! We couldn't resist taking the twins out in our tobaggan for a (slow and gentle) ride.

Max and J.J., who live next door came out to see what was up--J.J. in shorts despite the fact that it was 28 degrees out! He didn't stay out long...

Rose and August were surprisingly good sports about being towed about in the tobaggan. And we got to try out their fleecy snow suits. Rose in particular really wanted to get at the snow to figure out what it was.

Black Friday breakfast

Here are some pics of our breakfast at Aunt Juel's house on the friday after Thanksgiving. Rose, Juel and August first thing in the morning.
Cousin Casey takes a break from cooking to pose with Rosie.
A good-bye shot of August, Casey and Rose before leaving for our trip back to Seattle. Casey came from Atlanta to spend the week in the northwest with our families. She actually arrived in Seattle Sunday and spent several days with us but we were too busy having fun to remember to take photos!

Thanksgiving in Salem

This year we packed up the kids - and a significant amount of baby gear - and headed to the home of Rob's sister Juel in Salem, OR. We spent the holiday with her extended family there. At top Rose plays with her cousin Carol. In the lower photo August and Rose play with their new friend Korah.

Standing Up (With Lots of Support)

The twins are both showing a lot of interest in standing up (though neither one seems interested at all in crawling). If you stand them up next to something to hold on to they really love it--and their steadiness has improved dramatically in just the last few days! (They don't actually pull themselves up yet, so all the hard work is done for them.)

Here they are playing in the one sleeper crib.

Soggy Sunday

Some pictures from our lazy Sunday at home.... Rosie wondering why her brother acts so goofy.
Augie hamming it up with an empty Dorito bag. He doesn't eat Doritos, he just waves the empty bags around after Daddy makes a trip to Subway.
Here August is working on some cantelope in his Baby Safe Feeder (www.babysafefeeder.com). The idea of the feeder is for him to chew on food inside a little mesh bag - which he's holding in his right hand - until it's small enough to get it through the holes in the bag. It took both Rose and August a while to get interested in these but now a little bit of fruit in one of these can keep them busy a long time without the danger of them choking on a big chunk.

Lots of people are curious these days about what August and Rose eat. They have solids twice a day, though we're starting to aim for adding a third mini-meal. The foods that August and Rose have tried so far include apples, apricots, peaches, pears, plums, bananas, cantelope, green beans, peas, carrots, squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, spinach, corn, lentils, tofu, oatmeal, rice cereal, yogurt, chicken, ham, turkey, avocado, macaroni and cheese (baby food) and egg yolks. They made disgusted faces over the plums, but seemed to like just about everything else.

The rain has returned...

August all suited up and ready for the next nine months of gray and drizzle. At the moment we're experiencing heavier than usual rains, and hoping to get a little break soon.
Here are August and Rose during one of their favorite times of the day - mail delivery time when they get to crumble and shred the nonessential mail. In this picture their having a good time with cards sent by Grandma Gloria. If you look closely at August (and ignore the sweet potatoes on his shirt) you can just about see his first two teeth.

Sadly, we forgot to take our camera to the polls today where the babies went to witness democracy in action. Voting may soon be a mail-in process in Washington so I (Becky) was eager to take them to the polling site at least once before the tradition is gone. Rose was outspoken about something while I was voting, but otherwise they were very well-behaved.

More Halloween and More Reading

Here's a nice picture of Becky reading to the babies.

And here's a picture of the twins with Becky's friend Archana's twins Anishka and Nishan, also dressed up for halloween. (Becky knows them from the Mom's of Twins group she goes to.)
