We pronounce ourselves...weaned!

This photo was meant to commemorate the end of the Yoder Breastfeeding Team which officially disbanded today following a seven day stretch without any nursing. As you can see, August and Rose were too involved in fighting over coffee creamers to be bothered with posing for the picture (appropriate for the situation I guess). For the last four months, the twins have nursed after waking in the morning and a week ago we decided to eliminate that feeding. There's been some wailing and moaning, but overall they've been good sports.
We went to IHOP to officially celebrate the weaning. I (Becky) really wanted ice cream to be a part of the celebration, but breakfast fit our schedule better and who could turn down an excuse for pancakes?
August tries to give the camera a whack with his menu.
Rose chooses between hash browns, eggs and sausage. Her final decision...nothing! She was too busy chattering for the ladies at the next table to eat.August couldn't get enough of the coffee creamers and carefully stuffed his scrambled eggs into the empty containers.

Long time, no posting

It's been a really long time since our last post. It's not that we lost our camera or that we moved the website or, regrettably, that we've been away on a fabulous vacation. It's just that life has gotten in the way recently. Rob's been busy working and heading up our efforts at finding childcare for the twins in the fall. Becky's been studying a lot and training for the Danskin Triathlon. And the weather has been lousy - rainy, cold...we just haven't been getting out and about to fun places. So we've been home hangin' out, looking at books, watching too much PBS and waiting for days like today when the sun finally returned. Here are some pics from the last 10 days.
Our boy has developed quite the enthusiasm for that American-kid classic, peanut butter and jelly. Here he is on a day when I forgot to get a bib on him and he totally dug into the PB&J.
Rose demonstrates our post-peanut butter wash up routine. Both kids love washing up at the sink and scrub and scrub and scrub. I would have liked to get a photo of August at the sink too, but he gets pretty wild with the soap and water and needs a full time spotter.
Here are the kids, bored with another episode of "Arthur" and hoping the sun will just come back out. (Check out the T-shirts, Logan and Jared!) Since this photo, one of our little monkeys has hidden the remote to the TV and we've been looking for it for days. They also made off with mommy's keys but we found those inside their play dragon.
Here's Rose with Frenchie-the-cat at the home of our friends Rupert and Dana. We visited them for the rained out Lakefair in Olympia and the cat was the biggest hit of the day.

In other twin news, August and Rose have become unbelievable climbers and there's a whole new dimension to baby-proofing for them. I frequently discover one of them wildly rocking while standing on the rocking-chair. And yesterday I followed August's whimpers to find him stuck, feet in the air after he climbed into the toybox head first and couldn't get back out. They're pretty busy, but so much fun.

Miller fountain

We spent this afternoon at one of Rose and August's favorite places, the fountain at the Miller Community Center. The weatherman says that it will be getting cooler and cloudier in the next couple of days so we decided to make the most of the warm sun today.

Rosie likes to make the water spray around by putting her foot in the stream.
When the water fountain goes down for a few minutes, the kids get brave and venture into the center. Then the water goes back up and sends them running away screaming and giggling.

Videos From a Day at the Park

Here's some typical behavior from the twins when out and about. Auggie likes waving sticks around and Rosie is always collecting rocks.

This file is much smaller. It showcases the dangers of filming the wild Auggie in his natural habitat.

We love a parade

We're late posting these photos. Last weekend we all went to the Wallingford Kiddie Parade and it was a hoot. The idea is that kids can just show up to be in the parade without registering ahead of time and they are encouraged to wear costumes. Some marching bands and a few organized groups like the cub scouts hold the thing together. Rosie and Augie loved watching the kids go by.
Here they are waiting patiently in their strollers for the parade to start.
Rose watches one of the awesome drill teams that marched in the parade.
Here's Augie watching the action. It was really good time for the kids to wear their "tethers." We've all had a hard time getting used to them, but they both loved having a little freedom to walk in front of our viewing spot and we loved not having to jump up and retrieve them every few minutes. This last photo has nothing to do with the parade, I just thought it was a funny picture of August immersed in reading the news. Actually, he's holding a copy of a nursing newsletter I get and I think he's got it upside down.

At the Wading Pool

We went to the wading pool at the local park on July 4th. The kids both love it this year (in contrast to last year when Auggie was scared of the water) and Becky has taken them several times already.

They played so hard they completely wore themselves out and both passed out in the stroller on the way home, Auggie refusing to lay back to sleep.
